NMR-based metabolomics for frauds detection and quality control of oregano samples

In this work 1H NMR metabolomics has been employed for quality control of oregano samples. data and morphological analysis (MA) were combined by PCA, obtaining a model able to individuate non-marketable samples, distinguish between the two marketable species (Origanum vulgare O. onites) on basis their metabolomic profile. Through approach distinctive biomarkers found, namely apigenin p-cymene onites, salvianolic acid B vulgare. Furthermore, percentage samples’ impurity (evaluated MA) profiles correlated OPLS models, which showed that, in addition species-specific biomarkers, thymol rosmarinic (common both species) strongly correlate degree purity. Cistus was one most frequent contaminants, thus, further model, detect cistus contamination also built.
